Merle Kids in the Press

Colorful styles that know no gender

Anyone who looks at the collections of Gaelle Lalonde's label Merle Kids will immediately notice: Bright colors and patterns thought out down to the smallest detail, that's the signature of Lalonde's designs. "I like my kids to be able to express themselves freely, without regard to gender stereotypes," Lalonde explains.
Since founding her label in 2018, she has sewn all of the pieces herself. That will change starting in March. That is when Gaelle Lalonde has found a production partner in Portugal, a GOTS-certified, and fair trade factory. All the fabrics used by Merle Kids are of organic quality. The illustrator and founder attaches great importance to this. You can buy the designs of Merle Kids for example at Lelo karli123 or in the Westfach.

Dinos decorate the clothes for boys, princesses those of girls. Period. But children do not think in black and white or in pink and light blue. They like it colorful and funny. So does the little son of Gaëlle lalonde, the founder of Merle Kids. His fondness for colorful clothes got the ball rolling. "I wanted to design clothes that let children be children," says the trained illustrator and mother of two.

In her small studio in Lindenau, she creates her products. "The fabric - which I design myself - is made exclusively for Merle Kids in Germany. The socks are knitted in Portugel in a GOTS-certified factory". Gaëlle pays attention to good quality and fairness. "Especially when you make products for children, it makes sense to produce them in a way that protects and preserves the future of the children. That's why the textiles are almost exclusively made of organic cotton and are always produced fairly".
